On November 16, 2021 Olena KOTYKOVA and Mykola BABYCH took part in the online training “Comprehensive training on tools and methods for measuring, analyzing, and reporting on food losses and waste”. The training is organised as part of FAO Multipartner Programme Support Mechanism (FMM) Project “Sustainable, resilient and inclusive food systems development”.
The main goal of the training is to improve the factual base and solve the problem of shortage and quality of data on losses and spoilage of food products in Europe and Central Asia.
In particular, the training covered various tools, methods and approaches to data collection developed and used by FAO, UNEP, EC, WRI and IFWC, including: the Food Loss Index, Food Waste Index, EU methodology for quantifying food waste, Food Loss and Waste Protocol and Standard, case study methodology for critical loss points, food waste quantification and reporting methods for wholesale, retail and household levels, as well as EX-Ante Carbon-balance tool for analyzing the environmental and socio-economic performance of value chains from producers to retailers..
Participants from different countries had the opportunity to share their views, get answers to the problematic questions of all researchers about tools and methods for measuring, analyzing and reporting on food waste and losses, as well as to establish links for future cooperation.
